South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are passionate about working with young people and deliver a variety of youth intervention programmes aimed at those aged between 11 – 25 years.
The Fire and Rescue Service has an important part to play in contributing to the well-being of children and young people by educating them about the importance of fire safety and the consequences of deliberate fires, hoax calls and anti-social behavior and we actively work to increase confidence and self-esteem among young people with a view to improving their interpersonal and vocational skills and providing a sense of direction, self-respect and life skills. We do this through the delivery of various youth interventions.
Our flagship programme is the Fire Cadets:
Fire Cadets is a nationally recognised inclusive and progressive uniformed youth organisation delivered through local Fire and Rescue Services, which inspires and empowers young people to be the best they can be and offers young people a unique insight into working within an emergency service.
We offer fun and challenging inclusive opportunities for young people and work to develop personal and social skills through activities which promote self-discipline, team work and citizenship. There is also the chance to gain awards and work towards achieving a recognised BTEC qualification, all whilst having fun and making new friends. SWFRS Currently has 12 Units situated across the Service Area.
SWFRS Volunteer Scheme:
SWFRS Volunteers will be expected to work alongside our specialist teams to deliver the Service’s key messages. It’s a rewarding experience, providing the opportunity to meet new people and undertake new challenges. The local community knowledge that you can provide, will enhance and complement the role of the Service in meeting the needs of our communities. You can help make the South Wales safer for all.
We cover 10 Unitary Authorities with South Wales – Bridgend, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouth, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan.
