Since 1875 we have been providing opportunities for girls and young women in England and Wales to build their self-esteem, wellbeing and resilience. Our volunteer-run, girls-only social groups meet weekly in term times to give every girl the opportunity to grow in confidence while they explore the core elements of our programme; community, creativity, self-worth, life skills, being active and having fun. There is a small weekly fee to cover refreshments, activities and the use of the hall. This ranges from 50p-£3 depending on the cost of running the group.
Volunteering with GFS is a great way to meet like-minded people who share a passion for empowering girls and young women. Our volunteers provide us with support in all areas across the organisation. You don’t need to be experienced in running youth groups or working with children. We will support you to become a volunteer at a group in your area or in setting up a new group. Please note that due to the nature of our work, our face-to-face roles are limited to women only. Other roles are open to men, such as book keeping, fund raising, marketing and administration.
