Brought to you by EYST Wales, we are delighted to invite you to our first learning seminar as part of the Right to Education (R2E) project. Right to Education is an all-Wales specialist support and advocacy service for ethnic minority young people and their families experiencing disputes with schools, including school exclusions.

What is a learning seminar? 

The learning seminar aims to equip those supporting and advocating for young people and families – in professional and community settings – with the knowledge and skills to mitigate and support those experiencing school exclusions. The interactive session will provide straightforward information to support you in your knowledge around school exclusions.

The learning seminar will particularly benefit those supporting and advocating for young people and families, of all backgrounds, either in a personal capacity (through parent and community networks) or professionally (youth workers, family support workers etc.)

What will I gain from attending?

Using real-life scenarios, Amira Assami and Jami Abramson will support attendees with:

• Understanding the basics – what does a school exclusion look like, what are the processes and guidance in place, what to do when things don’t feel/look right.
• Demystifying jargon around school exclusions, equipping you with the confidence to challenge schools and headteachers.
• ‘Spot the signs’ of young people on the road to school exclusion, offering preventative advice.
• Recognising the benefits of multi-agency working and referrals when supporting young people through school exclusions processes.
• The opportunity to share knowledge with your colleagues and peers, hopefully to widen knowledge about this sometimes less understood issue when supporting young people and families.
