Sexual Health Traffic Light Tool Kit – ETS Cymru training

The Sexual Behaviours Traffic Light Tool supports professionals working with children and young people by helping them to identify, understand and respond appropriately to sexual behaviours. It categorises the sexual behaviours using a traffic light system.

It focuses on behaviours that are developmentally appropriate for a particular age group – not just what is stated in law. This helps professionals to understand healthy sexual development and distinguish it from harmful behaviour.

Aims of the
course:

To develop the
knowledge and skills to confidently and effectively apply the Traffic Light
Tool when sexualised behaviours in children and young people are observed. We want you to explore your own values and understand how
they impact on decision making and for you to develop a common language around
developmental and unhealthy sexual behaviours.

By
the end of the training, participants will be able to:

• Identify the behaviour and establish if it is:
• • Typical or developmentally appropriate
  • Problematic or harmful
• Understand:
• • What the behaviour is communicating
  • Why the child or young person may be exhibiting it
• Respond appropriately. This will depend upon:
• • What’s motivating the behaviour
  • The severity of the behaviour
