Aneurin Leisure Trust is a not-for-profit organisation delivering the leisure and learning services across Blaenau Gwent. The Trust manages sport and fitness (sports centres, sports development, NERS and aquatics) parks – Parc Bryn Bach and Bedwellty House and Park, adult community learning and libraries across the county.
As a community-focused organisation, it is through these diverse range of services that we aim to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of the community.
Our Vision: More people, more active minds and bodies, more often.
Our Mission: Improving community life.
You can find out about our services and facilities from our websites:
Aneurin Leisure Trust – aneurinleisure.org.uk – where information about our adult community learning (age 16+) and libraries can be located. A unique initiative, working with the sports development team and partners, has been the development of Sports Libraries where members of the library can loan sports equipment free of charge.
Sports Centres – BG Life – bglife.co.uk. The sports centres in Abertillery, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar are open to all ages, with membership (and PAYG), having access to the state-of-the-art gyms, 100s of classes weekly and swimming pools.
The sports development team within the sports centres works closely with partners and schools to develop bespoke interventions to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of the community. They work closely with the Youth Sport Trust, using their framework, to provide a leadership and volunteering pathway for young people in Blaenau Gwent. Many of their current coaches have come from this pathway and work for the Trust within the team.
Another initiative from the sports development team to support the local community is the establishment of the Community Kit Room (CKR) where members of the public can access, for free, sports kit. There are a number of drop-off and collection points across the county which the team is looking to expand so there Ais greater accessibility to the CKR across the county.
Parc Bryn Bach – parcbrynbach.co.uk – is a local nature reserve in Tredegar. It is the perfect place for families to visit to explore nature and engage in the many activities that are held at the park. It has a lake at its centre with many water sports available to the community to participate in, a free play area and a sensory garden.
There is a bunkhouse that schools and groups can hire, along with educational and fun activity days.
For those who don’t wish to work from home, or commute, there is a Wellbeing Workhub which is free to use, with free Wi-Fi. This sits next door to a Wellbeing Meetinghub which can be hired by organisations who want somewhere different, in nature, to work or host meetings.
Bedwellty House and Park – bedwelltyhouseandpark.com – is another beautiful park in Tredegar. It is steeped in heritage which can be explored through an interactive trail, explaining the history of the park and house, is the perfect venue for weddings and other significant occasions and hosts many enjoyable, family activities. There is an active volunteer group who meet weekly to help tend the gardens.
Through the sports development team we offer the Leadership and Volunteering Pathway, working with the Youth Sport Trust, The pathway begins as young as Years 4 and 5 with the Playmaker scheme and progresses through to Year 2 of college, working with Coleg Gwent students within the Platinum and Gold schemes. As part of this pathway young people can be involved with the ‘I can Lead’ and ‘Coach of the Future’ programmes.
Integral to the pathway are volunteering opportunities where young people can work alongside and, eventually, run activities within the community based around sport with the support of the sports development team.
We offer NPLQ training each year.
